Bangladesh’s rampant young shuttlers are dominating the ongoing Yonex-Sunrise International Junior Badminton Tournament-2018, assuring at least two gold medals with two men’s semi-finals being all Bangladesh, which will be held today at the Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmed Indoor Stadium in the capital.

Among the five events, young shuttler, Gaurav Singh will vie to reach treble finals as he will compete in three semi-finals consecutively.  

It will be an all Bangladesh affair in both men’s singles and doubles semi-final as Bangladesh’s shuttlers Abdul Hamid Lokman, Khondokar Abdus Saud, Mohammad Sibgat Ullah and Gaurav Singh will participate in singles semi-final while in the doubles event the pairs of Rajesh Chandra Dey-Raunak Nabi Priyo, Gaurav Singh-Mangal Singh, Mohammad Hanif-Abdul Hamid Lokman along with Mohammad Sibgat Ullah-Akib Solaiman will vie for their berth in the finals.

In the women’s singles semi-final; Bangladesh’s Urmi Akter, Rahima Jerin Ahmed will be going up against USA’s Ruhi Raju and India’s Trisha Joli and in the women’s doubles semi-finals Rahima Jerin Ahmed-Cameli Islam duo alone will represent Bangladesh.

In the international tournament, Bangladesh will also dominate the mixed doubles semi-finals as three semi-finalists pairs of Gaurav-Urmi, Mangal-Cameli and Lokman-Reshma Akter are representing of Bangladesh. India’s Manavraj Sumit and Trisha Joli duo are the only international competitors in the mixed doubles.

In the quarter-finals yesterday, Abdul Hamid defeated Mangal Singh by 21-19 and 21-15, Gaurav Singh beat Akib Solaiman by 21-17 and 21-16, Abdus Saud routed Raunak Nabi Priyo 24-22 and 21-18  and Sibgat Ullah conquered Mohammad Hanif by 21-18 and 21-12 to reach the semi-final of the men’s singles.

In the women’s single quarter-final matches, Urmi thrashed Bhutan’s Thinle Wagmu by 21-08 and 21-01 while Rahima Jerin defeated fellow shuttler Farbin Binte Imdad by 21-17, 11-21 and 21-15.

In the men’s double quarter-finals, Rajesh Chandra Dey-Raunak Nabi Priyo duo overpowered Sri Lankan  pair of Dunshan-Nilangka, Gaurav -Mangal pair routed Arsalan Ali-Ahmed Nibal pair from Maldives, Hanif-Lokman pair won over Bhutan’s Rinjin-Tenjin pair and Sibgat-Akib duo defeated another pair of Jimba Sangge-Yeasi Ratin from Bhutan before moving onto the semi-finals.

In the women’s double quarters, Jerin- Cameli overcame the pair of Funshu Dima-Thinle Wagmu from Bhutan.

In the mixed doubles quarters, Gaurav-Urmi thrashed Bhutan’s Anish Gurong-Thinle Wagmu by 21-01, 21-05, Mangal- Farbin pair routed fellow pair of  Hanif-Cameli while Lokman-Reshma duo ousted another fellow pair of Akib-Farzana to reach the semi-final of the event.
