Schoolboy, eight others held for suspected IS link

Police in Mymensingh on Friday afternoon arrested a schoolboy for having suspected links with Islamic State (IS), a radical militant group that has seized large swathes of territory in eastern Syria and across northern and western Iraq.
The boy, Mohammad Fahim Al Faisal Ibne Musa Bin Julkernine, 15, a class nine student, is the son of school teacher Johirul Islam of Fatehnagar village in Iswarganj upazila, according to the police.
Julkernine was caught by Sohagi School and College Principal Md Harun-or-Rashid while pasting ‘IS endorsed posters’ that read “Madhya-Praccher Dak” (The Call of Middle East) on the institution’s wall. The principal later informed the police.
Borhan Uddin, officer-in-charge of Iswarganj Police Station, said they detained Julkernine and handed him over to the Detective Branch (DB).
Meanwhile, a DB team raided different spots of the upazila and detained eight others early yesterday for interrogation.
The arrestees are Mizanur Rahman Khan, 20, a honours 2nd year student of Management department at Govt Ananda Mohan College, his younger brother Ibrahim Khan Hasan, 14, a student of Hafizia Madrasa at Atharabari, Haider Ali, 40, an agent of bKash, Badiul Hasan, 24, proprietor of Navil Telecom, Helal Uddin, 20, Junayed, 26, Masud Miah, 22, and Mujibur Rahman, 24.
We are interrogating the detainees whether they are involved with the IS, Imarat Hossain Gazi, officer-in-charge of DB, said.
