The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) recently issued an 18-point directive to its members for increasing their security. The move comes after the murder of Italian citizen Cesare Tavella in the capita’l, said sources. According to official documents obtained by The Independent, the set of instructions titled ‘Cautionary measures beside personal safety of the police forces’ was issued on September 30. According to the directive, every policeman on-duty must wear riot gear that includes helmet, bullet proof jacket, leg guard and boot.
The DMP notice also instructed its members to protect their arms and ammunition and be careful in using the firearms. The forces must not perform duty in isolated and scattered manner and members must not go out of their colleagues’ eyesight, said the instruction.
Referring to the unnecessary uses of electronic devices while on duty, the DMP said members must stop listening to audio or watching video while on duty, as criminals may take this opportunity and carry out attacks on the members.
For each team deployed at check posts, at least one member of the force must remain in guard position, the instruction said. The DMP also instructed members to wear reflective belt while on night duty.
