Man dies in police custody in capital

A man died under police custody in the capital early yesterday, hours after his arrest in Jatrabari area. Police arrested Jamal Uddin Ripon, 45, accused in several cases, from Sheikhdi area of Kajla around 11 pm on Saturday. Officer-in-charge of under Jatrabari Police Station Kazi Wazed Ali said Ripon fell sick soon after his arrest. He was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where he was pronounced dead by the on-duty doctor around 12:05 am. Ripon was suffering from various diseases, including high blood pressure, the OC said, adding that they suspected that Ripon died of heart attack. "However, we'll be sure after getting the postmortem report."
