Jatiya Press Club poll tomorrow

The election to the Jatiya Press Club managing committee will be held tomorrow (Dec 18). The voting to elect the new managing committee of the club for the 2018-19 tenure will begin at 9 am and continue till 5pm without any break, said a press release on Sunday, and signed by its general secretary Farida Yasmin. Meanwhile, the 22nd biennial general meeting of the club will be held at its auditorium at 10 am today. The club members have been requested to attend the meeting.
Language hero Bimal Roy dies

Bimal Roy Choudhury, a 1952 Language Movement veteran and a Freedom Fighter, died from old age complicacies in Jashore General Hospital on Saturday morning. He was 93. He breathed his last at 9:00 am, said his son Anup Roy Choudhury. Bimal Roy Choudhury was born on February 25, 1925, in Noapara village in the sadar upazila. He was a child of Surendranath Roy Choudhury and Anila Roy Choudhury. He completed his BA (Pass) course from Jessore MM Government College in 1948. He got involved with the Language Movement since 1948 and actively took part in it and later was jailed for 15 days for his active participations.
The language movement veteran also took part in the Liberation War in 1971 and later joined Awami League. He was also elected Chairman of Noapara Union Parishad in 1964 and continued his duties till 31 October, 1988. He left behind a son, three daughters and hosts of relatives to mourn his death.
Seminar held in capital

The Institute of Chartered Secretaries of Bangladesh (ICSB) organised a CPD Seminar on ‘Bangladesh Trade and Tariff Commission and its Role in the Economic Development of Bangladesh’ today at Dhaka Club Limited in the capital. Chairman of Bangladesh Trade and Tariff Commission Zahiruddin Ahmed graced the occasion as the chief guest while member of Bangladesh Trade and Tariff Commission Dr. Mostafa Abid Khan, was present as special guest, said a press release.
Abid Khan also presented the keynote paper on the “Bangladesh Trade and Tariff Commission and its Role in the Economic Development of Bangladesh”.
Speaking on the occasion, the Chairman of the Bangladesh Trade and Tariff Commission appreciated the profession of chartered secretaries for their hard work to ensure good governance in corporate sector alongside playing a vital role for economic development of the country.
He mentioned that the Commission has been performing an active role in implementation of various trade related policies of the government.
