Teachers of government primary schools across the country will observe 4-hour work abstention for four days from today to press home six point demands that includes upgrading of their salary to grade 11 of the new pay scale.
The work abstention will begin at 9am and will continue till October 8. The agitating teachers have also announced full-day work abstention for five days starting from October 10.
Four organisations of assistant teachers of primary schools — Bangladesh Primary Teachers’ Society, Bangladesh Primary School Teachers’ Association, Bangladesh Government Primary School Assistant Teachers’ Association and Primary School Assistant Teachers’ Forum- jointly announced the programme to realise their demand.
The teachers will also observe token hunger strike in front of the National Press Club in the capital on October 15 from 9am to 3pm. Federation leader Zahidur Rahman said they have called the programme as the government is not responding to their demands for a prolonged period.
“About 1.25 lakh assistant teachers will join the movement for their justified demands. They may even announce tougher prog-rammes like boycotting the upcoming terminal examinations, if there is no response,” he added.
