‘Galpo Sangkhep’ and ‘Operation Jackpot’ bag best film awards

An award ceremony was arranged on the concluding day of the recently-held ‘Bangladesh Short and Documentary Film Festival 2018’ at the National Art Plaza Auditorium of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA) in the capital on Saturday. The awards were distributed in the categories of best film, best filmmaker and special jury prize for both short and documentary film sections separately.
This year, ‘Galpo Sangkhep’ jointly made by Sajan Majhi and Asim Sarkar won the best short film award while SM Kamrul Hasan and Tasmiah Afrin Mou jointly won the best filmmaker award for their short films ‘Ghran’ and ‘Kobi Swamir Mrityur Por Amar Jabanbandi’ respectively. Besides, Mahmud Hasan received the special jury award for the short film ‘Etibritto Kingba Bastobatar Purramba’.
On the other hand, in the section of documentary film, Md Aminul Haq-directed ‘Operation Jackpot’ won the best film award while Jhumur Asma Jui was awarded as the best filmmaker and Farid Ahmed got the special jury award for ‘Lal Sabujer Dipabali’.
Of the winning films, best film got Taka one lakh, best filmmaker got Taka 50,000 and special jury award got Taka 25,000 for both short films and documentary films.
Veteran filmmaker Syed Salahuddin Jaki was present as the chief guest at the award ceremony, while noted filmmaker Morshedul Islam and professor Dr Fahmidul Haq of Dhaka University’s mass communication and journalism department were present as special guests. Presided over by BSA director general Liaquat Ali Lucky, academy secretary and director of the theatre department Md Badrul Anam Bhuiyan delivered vote of thanks at the Saturday’s award ceremony.
Earlier on December 8, the eight-day ‘Bangladesh Short and Documentary Film Festival 2018’ began at 64 districts simultaneously across the country. Information Secretary Abdul Malek inaugurated the festival as the special guest.
This year, 48 short films and 22 documentary films were screened at the festival. A five-member jury committee reviewed a total of 70 films.
