Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has been stressing on building sporting wickets in domestic competition so that players could play in such type of wickets and make their habituation to cope with the overseas’ wickets.
BCB tournament committee chairman Akram Khan said that they will send chief selector to monitor the wickets before the start of the next round games of the National Cricket League (NCL).
“We didn’t make good wickets last year. This year we’ve held meeting with selectors and grounds committee. Just five days before the start of the league, we’ve talked to curator regarding sporting wickets and informed them about our demand. We’ve tried our best to make it. We’ll get to understand about it after this league. We told selectors to look into the wickets after the match,” said Akram Khan.
“We’ll send the chief selector from our tournament committee to monitor the wickets. Before the start of the next round games of the NCL, he will go to Rajshahi, Bogra and Khulna, where he’ll stay for one day in each venue. Many things rely on his reports. We’ll inquiry if we get flat wickets,” Khan told media at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium yesterday.
“We talked with them a  few minutes ago. But I can say that the wickets have been better more than the previous years. We’re trying to improve it further. It depends on curator. I’ll not say anything on last match as all the matches have not been held properly due to rain,” he added.
The tournament committee chairman said that the league matches will be the platform for the out of form players, who can use it as tool to return to the national fold.
“It’s a good opportunity for the players who are now out of the national team. They’ll morally be boosted if they could perform against national players. If they can perform they could be learned many things from here,” former skipper thought.
Akram said that they have allowed playing foreign players in the league this year but it banks on the divisional teams.
“We had kept an option to bring foreign players. But all the expenses of the foreign players will be bore by  the respective divisional teams. We gave them a chance. But it depends on them,” he singled out.
“We are going to organise a longer-version tournament with the involvement of Under-19 from October 24. It will be held as per the aspects of BCL. Eight divisional teams, splitting into four zonal groups, will participate in the meet for the first time. We will get some more good players in future from here,” Akram said, adding “We’re trying to manage the franchisee for the Under-19 Cricket tournament. If we could not manage it this year we’ll try to do it from the next year though we have 50 percent chance to get a sponsor for the tournament.”
“I don’t think so. The series against Australia has not happened. But domestic cricket competitions are going on one after another. After National league, BPL will be held. Thereafter, we have BCL and Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League. All will be amongst the games. Those who went to India the series will be better for them. Players, who are out of form will get chance to come back in form through this tournament.”
“Australia postponed the series with Bangladesh that was a matter of astonishment. We had organised the World Cup 2014 amid political mayhem successfully. They should verify us considering this capability before taking such decision. We don’t think it will impact on other tournaments,” Khan told in response to a query.
About the final of the national championship, former skipper said, “The final of the national championship has been remained. We could not organise it due to rains. But we will arrange the match in the gap when the weather will be good,” the chairman said.
“We have planned to stage the final match after the Eid. But the ground in Pabna was not fully prepared due to the rains. It is a matter of three days to hold the meet. We will stage the match just after the end of the NCL,” he insisted.
