A three-member police team will go to Saudi Arabia on October 11 to bring back Kamrul Islam, the prime accused in murder case of 13-year-old Samiul Islam Rajon in Sylhet, sources in the home ministry and the police headquarters said. The team is likely to return with Kamrul on Oct 14 with the help of Interpol, the sources said.
Kamrul is in Interpol custody in Riyadh after being arrested in Jeddah with the help of the Bangladesh Consulate, added the sources.
The police team will be headed by Additional Superintendent of Police (police headquarters) Mahbubul Karim. The other members are Additional Deputy Commissioner of the Sylhet Metropolitan Police (SMP) Mohammad Rahmat Ullah and SMP’s Senior Assistant Superintendent AFM Nizam Uddin.
A senior official of the home ministry told The Independent on condition of anonymity that the ministry has allocated Tk 3,82,738 as cost of the team to bring Kamrul back.
“We have sent required documents to the Bangladesh Embassy in Riyadh and the Saudi authorities,” he said.
Kamrul left the country after Rajon was beaten to death on July 8 this year, for allegedly stealing a rickshaw-van at Kumargaon, in Sylhet Sadar upazila.  The Bangladesh Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, Golam Masih, had earlier said that the home and foreign ministries should move to bring back Kamrul.
The police submitted a chargesheet accusing 13 persons of the murder of Rajon.
