Suspected robber lynched in Laxmipur

A suspected robber was killed in mass beating at Kusakhali in Laxmipur sadar upazila early yesterday. He was identified as Nuruddin alias Nura, 35, of Govindapur village of the upazila. Police said a gang of robbers numbering 10 to 12 assembled at Kusakhali at 3am for committing robbery in the area. Local people on getting the information came in greater number and chased the robbers. At one stage, villagers caught Nuruddin and beat him up mercilessly, leaving him dead on the spot.  However, cohorts of Nuruddin managed to flee the scene. Officer-in-charge of Chandraganj police station Humayun Kabir said four robbery cases have been pending with sadar and Chandraganj police stations against him. Police recovered the body yesterday morning and sent it to hospital morgue for postmortem.
