Bangladesh ex-cricketers expressed their disappointment at the decision of Cricket Australia’s (CA) postponing the tour of Bangladesh. They stated that Bangladesh had organised multi-national tournaments in previous occasions amid political mayhem but this time there is no such situation in the country.
They also hoped that the Test series will soon be held through discussion between the two boards as the series has been withheld not been declared cancel.
“As an ex-cricketer and citizen of the country I have never deemed that we have any security problem. Everything is going on smoothly. We had seen political turmoil in the country during the ICC World Twenty20 and Asia Cup. Now such situation is no more in the country. But it would be better if we got to know the cause of postponing the Test series,” said Aminul Islam Bulbul, former skipper of Bangladesh.
“We can play less number of Test matches. We got an opportunity to play two Test matches with the team like Australia this time. The position of the team is good at the moment. All the players were in-form. We could capitalise the chance if we play against them,” Bulbul, who is currently conducting ACC level-3 coaching programme in Bangladesh, told media.
The first Test centurion of Bangladesh said that cricket is always safe and secured in the country as the game has already won the affection of the people here.
“Australia have postponed the Test series in Bangladesh. But we have Under-19 World Cup and Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) ahead. Along with that, Zimbabwe and England will come here to play bi-lateral series. We have just proved on pen and papers that we are safe. There are no problem or violence here. We are better more than other neighbouring countries.” the 48-year-old told in response to a query.
Citing the mini-World Cup, Aminul said, “Before the mini-World Cup in 1998, it was told that the water and weather of the country were not good. We had organised it through proving these allegations were not right.”
“The relation between Bangladesh and Australia is good. This relation is for long time. They helped us in games and education programme by coaching. We also helped them. If we could keep this relation in right track then we could be moved forward. This time we have to identify the place of problem and if we could resolve it then everything is okay.”
On other hand, Jalal Yunus echoed with Bulbul’s sentiment and said that Australia took the step on temporary basis as they thought that their tour in Bangladesh is not safe for them.
“We have nothing to do. We’ve tried our utmost effort. We assured them to give VVIP security. But Australia thinks that at the moment it is not safe for them to tour Bangladesh on October. It is a temporary postponement,” Jalal Younus, BCB media committee chairman said.
“I am still hopeful that the series has been withheld, not been declared cancel. The series will not be possible within 6-8 months. But it will be held through discussion between the two boards later,” Jalal, who was a former fast-bowler, opined.
