At least four people were killed and forty seven others injured in separate road accidents in Mymensingh and Khagracharri districts on Thursday and yesterday.
Of the dead, three were killed in Mymensingh and one in Khgarachhari.
In Mymensingh, at least eleven bus passengers were injured when a Mymensingh-bound bus from Dhaka crashed into a van from behind, skidded off the road and fell into a roadside ditch at around 11.30 am in Boilor area on Dhaka-Mymensingh highway in Trishal upazila yesterday.
Quoting locals Moniruzzaman, officer-in-charge of Trishal Police Station, said seriously injured Kajal, 23, was declared dead by duty doctor at the Mymensingh Medical College Hospital (MMCH). He was an inhabitant of Dugia Rampur village in Netrakona district.
The injured bus passengers were treated at different local clinics. Police seized the bus; but its driver managed to flee the scene.
In another road accident, a human hauler driver was killed and three others, including a war crime suspect and two police constables, were injured at Boilor area Thursday afternoon.
The victim has been identified as Abdul Wahab, 45, the human hauler driver.
The accident took place when a CNG-run auto-rickshaw carrying a police team and war crime suspect Hormuj Ali, 73, to Mymensingh town was hit by a human hauler coming from the opposite side at around 4:30 pm, said Moniruzzaman.
Earlier, Trishal police arrested Hormuj for his alleged involvement in crimes against humanity from his village Boilor at around 4.00 pm on Thursday.
Of the injured, three were taken to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital (MMCH) where Abdul Wahab died.
Hormuj Ali and police constable Abdul Hye, 52, have been admitted at MMCH, police said.
Hormuj received minor injuries in his hands, but condition of Hye, who sustained injuries in head and chest was stated to be critical, police said quoting hospital sources.
In yet another road crash a garment worker was killed and four others injured in a road accident at Mashkanda area yesterday.
The victim was identified as Ibrahim Khalil, 35, of Bidhyaganj in Sadar upazila.
Police said the accident took place when a Dhaka-bound bus hit Ibrahim after colliding with a three-wheeler (tempo), killing him on the spot and injuring four tempo passengers around 3 pm. Ibrahim was waiting to travel to Savar for his workplace, police said. The injured persons were admitted at MMCH.
Police recovered the body and sent it to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy.
In Khagrachhari, a student was killed and 30 others were injured in a road accident at Board Office area in Matiranga upazila of Khagrachhari district yesterday.
The deceased has been identified as Mohammad Kabir Ahmed, 20, of Tabalchhari Noapara under same upazila in the district. Kabir has passed Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) examination from local Green Hill College this year. Officer-in-charge of Matiranga police station Muhammad Shahdat Hossain Titu said the accident occurred when a passenger bus heading towards Chittagong from Tabalchhari area at around 12 noon yesterday overturned after its driver lost control over the steering near Board Office area leaving Kabir Ahmed dead on the spot and 30 others injured.
Three among the injured are in critical condition. Locals rescued the injured people and sent them at Matiranga Upazila Health Complex for treatment.
Police recovered the body and sent it to Khagrachhari Adhunik Sadar Hospital for postmortem, he added.
