DSE ends week in green

Key share price index at the country’s premier bourse - Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) - experienced slight gain in the last week after Eid vacation amid low market participation, reports UNB. The daily average turnover at the DSE was Tk 437.45 crore, a rise by 0.77 per cent while last week’s average turnover was Tk 434.12 crore. The DSE benchmark index, DSEX, closed the week at 4,856.97 points, 3.67 points or 0.08 per cent higher than the previous week. DSEX closed the previous week at 4853.29 points, gaining 33.84 points or 0.70 per cent.
The DSEX Shariah Index, DSES, closed the week at 1182.14 points losing 8.09 points or 0.75 per cent.
The blue chip index of DSE, DS30 shed 9.08 points or 0.49 per cent to close at 1851.27 points on the previous week.
Analysing the last week’s market
situation, LankaBangla Securities said, “Market traded flat this week with amid low market participation after hitting straight up to the 4860 level on the opening of the week benchmark index ended the five-day winning streak in this current in which it had advanced more than 60 points.”
“Financial stocks supported the market to sustain above 4850 level in index,” the stockbroker said.
The merchant bank also said, “Economic outlook by the UnitedWorld’s Bangladesh Report gave positive vibe to the market. The report says that the independent global media communication agency is upbeat about Bangladesh’s prospect of becoming a middle-income country by 2021. Investors were also eyeing the economic updates at the end of first quarter of current fiscal year in this week.”
Of the 325 issues traded at the DSE last week, 139 gained, 165 suffered loss and 21 remained unchanged.
The major gaining sectors of the week were Mutual Fund gaining 3.20 per cent while Bank 1.91 per cent and Cement 0.49 per cent.
The top losing sectors at the DSE were Telecommu-nication losing 4.48 per cent whileTextile 1.57 per cent and Miscellaneous 1.53 per cent.
The week’s top five gainers were AIBL 1st Islamic Mutual Fund with a gain of 28.33 per cent, Premier Cement Mills 18.17 per cent, NCCBL Mutual Fund-1 14.29 per cent, SAIF Powertec 12.76 per cent, and MBL 1st Mutual Fund 12.00 per cent.
Far Chemical Industries dominated the week’s top turnover chart with shares worth Tk 86.76 crore, followed by SAIF Powertec Tk 68.94 crore, Grameenphone Tk 51.97 crore, Square Pharmaceuticals Tk 51.95 crore and Islami Bank with shares worth Tk 43.89 crore.
Top five losers at the DSE were 7th ICB Mutual Fund losing 11.89 per cent, Jute Spinners 10.16 per cent, Bangladesh Submarine Cable Company 8.69 per cent, Apex Spinning 8.67
per cent, and 3rd ICB Mutual Fund 8.62 per cent.
