JU, KU reopen after Eid vacation
SAVAR: All the academic and administrative activities of  Jahangirnagar University (JU) will resume today, after a 13-day long Eid vacation. The university went into a 13-day academic vacation from September 19 to October 1 while administrative offices remained closed from September 22 to October 1 marking the Eid-ul-Azha. Meanwhile, students have already started returning to their respective dormitories after enjoying the long holiday. Meanwhile, the classes and examinations of Khulna University (KU) will resume on Sunday after Eid-ul-Azha vacation, said a KU press release. The academic and administrative activities will also start on the same day. The students have already started returning to their respective dormitories post-Eid vacation. Earlier, the university went into Eid vacation on September 20.       
KUET online admission process begins
KHULNA: The online admission process for the first year honours of BSc Engineering and BURP courses of 2015-2016 academic sessions of Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET) began on Thursday, said a university press release. KUET Vice-Chancellor Muhammed Alamgir inaugurated the admission process at a programme held at KUET Central Computer Centre. The candidates interested in getting admission to the university can collect forms from the university website and submit those till October 11 midnight. A student will have to fill in an application form and submit it as per instructions on the website. The admission seekers are asked to call registrar’s office of KUET (PABX: +880-41-769468 Ext-158, 138,189) if they face any problem in the admission process. The admission seekers may also have all the information about the admission tests on the notice board, registrar office and the university website (www.admission.kuet.ac.bd) the committee said. After scrutiny the applications, the authority will publish the list of eligible candidates with assigning a roll number on the university website on October 27, said Registrar of KUET Md Abdur Rouf. A total of 875 students will be admitted in different departments of three faculties of the university, registrar said, adding that the tests will be held on November 6.


Public talk on World Mental Health at IUB
The School of Public Health of Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) organised a public talk on World Mental Health on IUB campus at Bashundhara in the capital on Thursday, says a press release.
Dr Tawfiq-e-Elahi Chow-dhury, Bir Bikram, Energy Advisor to the Prime Minister attended the programme as the chief guest.
Vikram Patel, Professor, Public Health Foundation of India, delivered the key-note speech.
Shamim Matin Chowdhury, founder chairperson of Beautiful Bangladesh and Atif Rahman, professor of Child Psychiatry, University of Liverpool, UK, spoke as special guests.
M Omar Rahman, vice chancellor, IUB and a renowned psychiatrist delivered the welcome speech. Rashed Chowdhury, chairman, Board of Trustees, IUB also spoke on the occasion.
Prof Patel said there is a myth that it is not a health condition at all, it is just the misery of life. “We have to change our attitude to improve the situation” he mentioned.
Dr Shamim mentioned that, 6.5 to 31 per cent among adults in Bangladesh have psychiatric and psychogenic disorder. The talk was followed by a lively question-answer session. Trustees, members of faculty and management and a good number of students attended the event.
