Kamruls extradition soon: Police

Correspondent, Sylhet

Kamrul Islam, the prime accused in the Samiul Alam Rajon murder case, will be extradited from Saudi Arabia within shortest possible time to face the trail, according to Sylhet Metropolitan Police (SMP) commissioner Kamrul Ahsan. The police headquarters has recently received a letter regarding extradition of Kamrul  to Bangladesh, the commissioner said. Sending back Kamrul from Saudia Arabia is being delayed for the return hajj flights to end, the SMP chief added.
There has not been fixed any date for the task yet, he said further. The authorities concerned have already finished all preparations to bring back him.  Kamrul fled to Sudia Arab soon after the killing of Rajon.
Later he was spotted there by Bangladeshi expatriates on July 13. Earlier last week, State Minister for Foreign Affairs Sahriar Alam gave a hint about the extradition of Kamrul. Interpol already issued a red alert about Kamrul and others absconding.   On the other hand, a court here on Thursday started recording testimonies of the witnesses in the Rajon killing case.
The deposition will be held on October 4,7,8,11,12,13,14 and 15 for quick disposal of the case. Judge of Sylhet Metropolitan Sessions Judge’s Court Akbor Hussain Mridha recorded  testimony of the witnesses in the afternoon.
Rajon’s parents and Sub-inspector of Jalalabad police station Aminul gave their testimony at the start.
On September 7, the Rajon murder case was transferred to the Metropolitan Sessions Judge’s Court from the Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court.
Earlier, police pressed charges against 13 people, including prime accused Kamrul Islam, for their involvement in the killing.
Later the court took the charges into cognizance on August 24. Police confiscated wealth of two absconding accused Kamrul and Shamim following an order of the court.
On August 31, the court also ordered to publish an advertisement in newspapers seeking to know whereabouts of the three absconding accused.
In the charge sheet submitted to a Sylhet court, police showed three accused, including Kamrul, absconding and 10 others arrested.
Kamrul fled to Saudi Arabia after the killing incident. He was later detained by Saudi police.
Now process is on to bring him back home to face the trail. Investigation officer of the case Suranjit Talukder, also an inspector of the Detective Branch of Sylhet Metropolitan Police, submitted the charge sheet to the court of Metropolitan Magistrate Shahedul Karim on August 16.
