Cop hurt in accidental firing
UNB, Dhaka
The in-charge of Sergeant Ahad Police Box at Gulistan sustained bullet injuries in an accidental firing by a patrol inspector inside the police box on Tuesday.
Additional deputy commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (Motijheel) Shibly Noman told UNB that sub-inspector Obaidur Rahman, patrol inspector Saiful and assistant commissioner (Patrol) Ilias were sitting together at the ACs room at noon. When Saiful was cleaning his firearm, a bullet suddenly came out of it around 12:30pm and hit Obaidur in his two legs, he said.
30 arrested in capital

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of police on Tuesday arrested 30 people, including an alleged arms dealer and a drug godfather, from different parts of the city. The arrestees include drug godfather Golam Faruque and his wife Afroza Akhter Anny.
The arrest was made during separate drives, said assistant superintendent of police (media) of CID headquarters Sharmin. During the drives, the CID team also unearthed information about valuable assets.
Faruque and his close associate Bhuttu were presented at a briefing at the CID headquarters by Special Super (Organised Crime) of CID Mollah Nazrul.
3 held with 34,000 yaba tablets
BSS, Dhaka
Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested three suspected drug peddlers along with 34,000 pieces of contraband yaba tablets from the citys Uttara area on Monday.
We arrested three drug peddlers, Tuhin Ali,25, Md Bappi,25, and Mohammad Ali Hridoy and seized 34,000 yaba tablets from a house of 13 no sector of Uttara around 9:30pm Monday, senior assistant police super and also assistant director of RAB media told BSS Tuesday.
The estimated value of the seized yaba is Taka 1.70 crore, he said, adding that they also recovered four mobile phone sets, and a private car using in transporting drugs.
4,256 cases filed for traffic rule violations

Traffic division of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) in their simultaneous drives on the city streets on Tuesday filed 4,256 cases against different modes of vehicles for traffic rule violation.
It also realised around Taka 34.22lakh as fine for traffic rule violation, said an official release.
Of the total cases, 382 cases were lodged for driving on wrong sides, 83 for using hydraulic horn, 11 for using hooter and beckon light and 22 others for using tinted glass. Police filed 1371 cases against motorcycles and seized 95 others for violation of the traffic rules. Traffic police has dumped 34 vehicles and wrecked 773 others.
Prof Aminul Islams 1st death anniversary today

The first death anniversary of renowned scientist and educationist Prof Aminul Islam, the founder vice-chancellor of Daffodil International University, will be observed today, says a press release.
Daffodil International University will organise a commemorative discussion at 71 Milanayatan of the university in the capital at 4pm today.
Prof Aminul Islam was the founder vice-chancellor of Daffodil International University and served as vice-chancellor of the university from 2002-2010. He was also the vice-chancellor of National University, Bangladesh from 1996-2000. He started his career in the department of Soil Science of University of Dhaka in 1956 as a junior lecturer and promoted to professor in 1973.
