Eid-e-Miladunnabi

Eid-e-Miladunnabi

Today, the 12th of Rabiul Awal of the Islamic lunar calendar, is the birthday of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). This date is very important to Muslims throughout the world because the birth of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) is regarded as a great blessing for the whole of humanity. The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) is the last in the line of all prophets sent on earth and it is to him the Holy Quran was revealed. There are only restricted festivities on Eid-e-Milad-Un-Nabi because the same day also marks the anniversary of the death of the Prophet (PBUH).

The event is marked by public gatherings of Muslims. At these meetings religious leaders make speeches about the life of the Prophet (PBUH). Incidents are narrated about different aspects of his life, his birth, childhood, youth and adult life. The most important part of Eid-e-Milad-Un-Nabi is focusing upon the character of the Prophet (PBUH), on his teachings, sufferings, and how he forgave even his bitterest of enemies. On the day, his followers dwell on the great leadership of the Prophet (PBUH), his bravery, wisdom, preaching and his final triumph over the Meccans.

The month of Rabi-ul-Awal is also the month in which the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) began his Hijrah and built the first Mosque of Islam, Masjid-e-Quba. However, the sacred day of 12th of Rabi-ul-Awal is especially important to the Muslim world as the occasion is meant to remind people of how the Prophet (PBUH) lived his life and rejuvenate their belief. It is the day when Almighty Allah sent His most beloved and the most praised servant Muhammad (PBUH) to this world to guide the humanity towards the ultimate truth and light. On this day, Muslims remind themselves of the unaccountable blessings, kindness and love which the Muslim Ummah got from the holy Prophet (PBUH).

Muslims believe that the light or ‘noor’ of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) will remain shining forever. Allah Almighty has made him a source of help and happiness for all the humanity, from the ‘Beginning’ till after the ‘End’. Today’s strife-torn world can only be illuminated through the light of the Prophet’s (PBUH) teachings. These celebrations aim at the promotion of the culture of love and fraternity, peace and harmony, justice and equality, restoration of human rights and denouncement of terrorism. Also, they give the message of human dignity, forgiveness and accommodation. The Muslims congratulate one another on this day and send peace and salutations to the beloved messenger of Allah.
