LNG terminal valve leak fixed; gas flow restored

After 14 days of disruption, the supply of liquefied natural gas (LNG) resumed yesterday for being injected into the national grid. “LNG supply from the country’s first LNG terminal at Maheshkhali started at 6.33am. There has been no problem so far in maintaining a smooth flow,” an official of the Rupantaria Prakritik Gas Company Ltd (RPGCL) told The Independent yesterday.

“Right now, the supply will be 50 mmcf to 300mmcf per day for being supplied to the national grid. After getting the new consignment of LNG, the supply will be increased to 500mmcfd per day,” he said. On November 3, a leak was detected in one of the terminal valves. A team of expert divers from the Singapore-based Excelerate Energy completed the repairs on Wednesday. The repair work was done some 5.5 km away from the shore where the valve is located. It lies 40 metres under the water.
