2 DU students get Prof Mannan scholarship

Two meritorious students of Dhaka University (DU) have been awarded Prof AKM Abdul Mannan Trust Fund Scholarship for their outstanding academic performances.
The recipients of scholarships are Ashraful Islam of the Mathematics Department and Mustafizur Rahman of the Applied Mathematics Department. DU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Akhtaruzzaman distributed scholarships among the students at a function at the VCs lounge of the university on Monday.
Dean of the Faculty of Science Prof Dr Md Abdul Aziz, Chairman of the Mathematics Department of Prof Dr Amal Krishna Halder, Associate Professor of the Applied Mathematics Department Dr Muhammad Ferdows, daughter of late Prof AKM Abdul Mannan, Associate Professor of the Department of Zoology Dr Jannatul Ferdous and Acting Registrar Md Enamuzzaman were present at the function with DU Treasurer Prof Dr Md Kamal Uddin in the chair. Addressing the function, Prof Akhtaruzzaman urged students to work for the betterment of their families, societies as well as the country. Students have to always engage themselves with good deeds, he said. Late AKM Abdul Mannan was a professor of the Department of Mathematics at different government colleges. He obtained both Honors and Master degrees from the Department of Mathematics of the DU. He died on July 10, 2009 in Dhaka.
IU introduces five new faculties

The authorities of Islamic University (IU) in Kushita on Tuesday introduced five new faculties on the campus.
The five new faculties were Faculty of Arts, Faculty of Social Sciences, Faculty of Sciences, Faculty of Engineering and Technology and the Faculty of Biological Science. According to the organogram of the university, a total of three departments are under the Faculty of Arts while five departments under Faculty of Social Sciences, two departments under Faculty of Sciences, five departments under Faculty of Engineering and Technology and three departments under faculty of Biological Sciences, said IU Vice-Chancellor Prof M Harun-Ur-Rashid Askari.
NSU wins Sailor Champions of Earth- Seasons 3

North South University (NSU) students won the Sailor Champions of Earth- Season 3 at NSU in the capital on Wednesday, says a press release
Sailor Champions of Earth Season-3, organised by the Earth Club of NSU, was an environmental idea generation competition for university students across the country.
Students from different disciplines of different universities took part in it. The competition initially had 411 teams and after 4 different rounds the event has three winners.
Team Captain Planet of North South University became the champion of the while team Golden Snitch of Dhaka University became the 1st runner-up and team Xero of Brac University was 2nd runner-up. Prof Gias U Ahsan, pro vice chancellor (Designate) and dean, School of Heal and Life Sciences of North South University, was the chief guest and Md Rezaul Kabir, chief operating officer of Sailor, was the guest of honour of the programme, proctor and NSU others faculty members were also present.
