Create mass-awareness about diabetes, say experts

Medical practitioners and specialists here unanimously mentioned that creating mass-awareness can be the vital means of reducing the number of patients sufferings from diabetics. Terming the diabetic as silent killer and one of the major social burdens they suggested creating adequate public awareness about the disease and getting rid of it in leading a normal life.

They came up with the remarks while addressing a post-rally discussion at conference of Diabetic Association General Hospital (DAGH) in the city on Wednesday. DAGH organised the discussion marking the World Diabetic Day-2018. Chaired by DAGH Vice-president Prof Nazrul Islam, the meeting was addressed, among others, by its General Secretary Prof Dr Mamun Ur Rashid, Chief Medical Officer Prof Dr Monwarul Haque, Deputy Chief Medical Officer Dr Ayesha Siddiqua and Principal Nutrition Officer Dr Kaniz Hasnain.

The speakers suggested for healthy food habit and encourage people, particularly the young generation, to prevent diabetes. “People should follow a healthy and balanced food habit especially from early childhood to prevent the silent killer diabetes,” suggested Professor Mamun Ur Rashid. He requested the educational institutions and parents to be careful so that the new generation can grow up with healthy food habit.

Prof Monwarul Haque stressed the need for creating awareness to prevent diabetes and called upon all public and private entities concerned including civil society and media to come forward in this regard.

Living a healthy and normal life is possible by controlling this disease, he added.

Another report adds from RANGPUR: Endocrinologists and diabetic experts at a discussion have stressed on maintaining disciplined life, taking balanced food and conducting regular physical exercise to prevent the silent killer disease of diabetes. They made these observations at the post- walkathon discussion arranged by Rangpur Diabetic Samity (RDS) on its office premises in the city on Wednesday marking the World Diabetes Day-2018.
