Ahmedur Rashid Tutul, a leading Bangladeshi publisher and editor, has won the prestigious Ossietskris prize this year for his lifelong dedication to writing and publishing progressive literature that promotes liberal and secular values.
Despite being attacked and nearly killed by extremists for his uncompromising stance in favour of freedom of expression and secularism, Tutul continues to publish his journal Shudasshar which brought prestigious Shaheed Munir Chowdhury Award in 2013 for him.
Currently living in Norway, Tutul continues to carry out his inspirational work, giving space and platform to Bangladesh’s secular and progressive authors and poets, according to official Facebook page of Norwegian Embassy in Dhaka. Norsk PEN, a non-political organisation that promotes literature and freedom of expression, annually awards the Ossietzkris prize for outstanding efforts for freedom of expression.
