IU official, employee suspended over bribe scam

The authorities of the Islamic University (IU) in Kushtia have suspended one of its officials and an employee temporarily for their alleged involvement with taking bribe from a job seeker. The decision was made at an emergency meeting of the university with its Vice-chancellor Professor M Harun-Ur-Rashid Askari in the chair, said sources at IU registrar office yesterday.
The VC issued the suspension orders against Umar Ali, assistant registrar of IU Law and Shariyah Faculty and Munshi Tariqul Islam, an employee of transport section of the university, after getting a written complaint from a job seeker, said IU Acting Registrar SM Abdul Latif. Earlier, a three member probe body was formed to look into the matter, he added. According to the written complaint, Umar and Tariqul took Tk 11,40,000 from Mamunur Rashid, a resident of Rajshahi district, luring him to be appointed as a hardware and network technician into the university. The duo took the money from Mamun using Umar's Agrani Bank Account. Later, the university authorities primarily investigated Umar's Agrani Bank Account and found their involvement.
Freshers’ reception held at WUB

The ‘Freshers’ Reception Fall Semester-2018’ of World University of Bangladesh (WUB) was held at Krishibid Institution Bangladesh Complex Auditorium at Farmgate in the capital on Tuesday, says a press release.
Dr Tawfiq- e-Elahi Chowdhury, Bir Bikrom, advisor to the Prime Minister on Energy, Power and Mineral Resources, was the chief guest and Dr Shamsul Alam, Member (Sr. Secretary) General Economic Division, Ministry of Planning; Prof M Nurul Islam, Pro-VC; Morsheda Choudhury, Treasurer; and Prof Musfiq M Choudhury, Chief Advisor, World University of Bangladesh were present as special guests. Prof Abdul Mannan Choudhury, Vice-Chancellor, World University of Bangladesh, presided over the programme. The freshers’ reception ended with a pleasant cultural programme along with photo sessions to commemorate the ceremony.
