Destiny chair jailed for three years

A Dhaka Court yesterday sentenced Mohammad Hossain, chairman of Destiny 2000 Limited, to three years imprisonment in connection with a case filed against him for not submitting any wealth statement to the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
Judge Sheikh Golam Mahbub of the special judge court-6 of Dhaka also fined him Tk. 60,000, failing which he will have to serve another three months in jail. Mohammad Hossain was present in the courtroom when the verdict was delivered.
ACC counsel Mahmud Hossain Jahangir told reporters that the ACC had filed the case against Mohammad Hossain for not submitting his wealth statement before the commission. The prosecution has been able to prove the allegations brought against him in the case, he said. Were happy with the verdict. The allegations against the Destiny chairman have been proved beyond reasonable doubt, Jahangir added.
On June 16, 2016, the ACC had sent a notice to the Destiny chairman, asking him to submit his wealth statement. But he did not do so. Later, on September 8 the same year, ACC assistant commissioner Salauddin filed a case with the Ramna police station in this connection. During the trial, the court recorded the statements of five prosecution witnesses, including that of the complainant. After the final hearing, the court sentenced him to three years imprisonment.
