Even though Zimbabwe demonstrated their rock-solid defense in the Test series so far, Bangladesh off-spinner Mehidy Hasan Miraj believed that they could prevent the visitors from eking out a draw if they can bowl in disciplined way.
With 76 for two, Zimbabwe still have the batsmen to survive three sessions on the fifth and final day but Mehidy said Bangladesh are confident of their chance to get a series-leveling victory.
“The wicket is good still, the bounce is not uneven. Apart from few balls that got uneven bounce it was a good wicket to bat,” Mehidy admitted.
“But if we can bowl in disciplined way, we can win the game and prevent them from eking out a draw.” According to Mehidy, it is not easy to chase the target of 443 in fourth innings and they declared the innings, considering enough time to bowl the tourists out.
“The team management decided to declare at a time when we have enough overs at hands to bowl them out. I think we have 120/125 overs when we declared. That’s enough time. what we have to do, is to bowl in right line and length.”
Mehidy said he is not jealous of Taijul Islam who beat him in taking more wickets in a condition, conducive to the spinners.
“It’s good thing that one of us is dominating the Zimbabwe batsman. When a bowler is in form, the other should support him. Taijul Islam is bowling very well, so my task is to aid him and create pressure.”
