Wife, 2 others to die for killing man in Brahmanbaria

A court here yesterday sentenced a woman and two other men to death for killing her husband over extramarital affair in the municipality area in Sadar upazila in 2011.
The condemned convicts are-Salma Begum, second wife of victim Abdul Karim and her lover Sajal Debnath and Alal Miah, residents of Bhadhudhar village. Among the convicts, Sajal and Alal remained absconding.
According to the prosecution, Salma along with the help of Sajal and Alal strangled Karim to death and dumped the body on June 5, 2011. Later, police recovered the body.
Victim’s first wife Sheuli Begum filed the case accusing four people.
After examining all the records and witnesses, additional district and sessions judge Sheikh Sultana Rajia handed down the verdict acquitting one accused- Liton Debnath.
‘JMB’ couple sent to jail

A court here on Tuesday sent a couple, alleged members of banned militant outfit Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) who were arrested on Monday night, to jail.
The court passed the order after Tuhin Sarkar, 27, and his wife Rumi Akhter, 21, of Melandaha upazila in Jamalpur district were produced before it.
Acting on a tip-off, a team of detectives conducted a drive at Kalitala in Sariakandi upazila around 9:15pm on Monday and arrested the couple, said Nure Alam Siddique, officer-in-charge of district Detective Branch of police.
DB sub-inspector Firoz filed a case against them with Sariakandi Police Station, he said.
2 girls ‘violated’ in Madaripur

Two girls have been ‘violated’ in separate incidents in Kalkini and Sadar upazilas of the district.
In Kalkini upazila, a mentally-unstable young girl was raped by a man at Sastal village on Monday, said Badrul Alam, additional superintendent of police.
He said neighbour Alamgir Gharami took the girl to a nearby garden and violated her there.
In Sadar upazila, a Class-I student of Balaichar village, was violated by Nirob Sardar, 19, son of Faruk Sardar, in an isolated place adjacent to the Balaichar Golap Kha Government Primary School on Sunday.
The minor girl was admitted to the Sadar Hospital and a case was filed in this regard, said Ishtiak Ahmed, Inspector (Operations) of Sadar Police Station.
Couple killed in road accident
BSS, Tangail
Two people were killed and three others injured as a truck collided head on with an auto-rickshaw in Sakhipur upazila of the district yesterday.
The deceased were identified as Motiur Rahman, 85 and his wife Asya Khatun, 75. They hailed from Inderjani area of the upazila.
Local people said the accident occurred in Batabari area on Sakhipur-Inderjani Road this noon. Injured people were brought at Sakhipur Upazila Health Complex where the duty doctor declared the elderly couple dead. Officer-in-Charge of Sakhipur Thana Amir Hossain confirmed. Police seized the truck.
Two ‘cattle smugglers’ arrested

Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) in a drive arrested two alleged cattle smugglers along with Indian cattle from Bhogaburi bordering area in Domar upazila on Tuesday.
The arrestees were identified as Joyen Uddin, 32, and Abdur Razzak, 18, of the upazila.
Sensing movement of two people in the bordering area during regular patrol, a team of BGB-56 challenged the duo and arrested them, said Lieutenant Colonel Abdul Kalam Azad, commanding officer of BGB-56.
A case was filed in this connection.
