Sale, submission of forms for AL ticket end today

The sale and submission of nomination papers of ruling Awami League for the 11th parliamentary elections will end today. The national general election is set to be held on December 23.  The AL office secretary Abdus Sobhan Golap told The Independent that the sale and submission of their party nomination forms will continue till 6pm today.

The interview of aspirants will be held on Wednesday at the AL president and Premier Sheikh Hasina’s Dhanmondi political office. Earlier, on Friday the party started selling nomination papers among the aspirant candidates. AL general secretary Obaidul Quader inaugurated the sale of nomination papers by purchasing nomination forms for party chief Sheikh Hasina.

A large number of leaders collected the nomination forms since Friday. The number of young leaders, collecting the nomination papers for the election, is more this time alongside the central and district leaders.  

Till filing the report, over 4000 nomination forms were sold in the past three days against the total of 300 parliamentary seats, party sources said.

This time the party has fixed Tk 30000 as the price of each nomination paper. Some 835 nomination forms were sold yesterday from eight booths set up at the new building of AL’s Dhanmondi party office. Former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Nur Mohammad yesterday collected AL nomination forms from Kishorganj-2 while former AL General Secretary Syed Ashraful Islam from Kishorganj-1.

“Syed Manjurul Islam, younger brother of Syed Asharaf collected the nomination form on behalf of the former AL general secretary who is now receiving treatment in Thailand,” said Rashedul Mahmud Russel, member of AL central subcommittee.

AL office secretary and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s special assistant Dr Abdus Sobhan Golap collected two forms—one from Madaripur-3 and one from Dhaka-6.

Actress Shomi Kaiser also collected AL nomination form for contesting the upcoming general polls from Feni-3.  

AL organising secretary Abu Sayeed Al-Mahmud Swapan collected nomination form from Joypurhat-1 and Saifuzzaman Shekhor, APS to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, collected nomination form from Magura-1.
