Seven DU students get Tajuddin Ahmad Trust Fund awards

Tajuddin Ahmad Memorial Trust Fund on Thursday awarded seven students of Dhaka University (DU) for their outstanding results in the Bachelor of Social Science (BSS) examination-2016. Of them, Md Aftab Uddin and Nawsin Akand of the Peace and Conflict Studies department got Tajuddin Ahmad Peace Gold Medal and Tajudddin Ahmad Scholarship respectively, said a DU press release.
Besides, Saiful Islam Khan of History, Shurid Sadiq of Bengali, Priyanka Sultana Hema of Population Science, Nasreen Jabin of Peace and Conflict Studies and Ahmad Salman Sirazi of Microbiology department received Tajuddin Ahmad Trust Fund prizes.
DU Vice-chancellor Prof Dr Md Akhtaruzzaman handed over the awards as the chief guest at a function held at Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban of the university. DU Treasurer Prof Kamal Uddin presided over the function organised by DU Tajuddin Ahmad Memorial Trust Fund while Member of the Trustee Board Simin Hossain Rimi, MP, addressed it as a special guest.
DU Bangabandhu Professor Muntassir Mamoon delivered the memorial lecture while DU Pro-Vice Chancellor (Academic) Prof Dr Nasreen Ahmad, Pro-VC (Administration) Prof Dr Muhammad Samad were also present.
UAE envoy calls on DU vice-chancellor

Ambassador of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to Bangladesh Saed Mohamed Al Mheiri called on Dhaka University (DU) Vice-Chancellor (VC) Prof Md Akhtaruzzaman today at the latter’s office of the university.
DU Arabic Department Chairman Prof Dr Muhammad Yusuf and other teachers were present on this occasion, a DU press release said.
During the meeting, they discussed matters of mutual interest specially the possibilities of strengthening friendly relationship between Bangladesh and UAE.
The vice-chancellor sought cooperation from UAE ambassador for promoting Arabic Department at DU. The UAE envoy assured the Vice-Chancellor of providing all possible support and cooperation in this regard.
Akhtaruzzaman thanked the guest for his visit to DU and showing keen interest in its academic and research activities.
IU discussion on Jail Killing Day today

The authorities of Islamic University will observe the Jail Killing Day on the campus in Kusthia on Saturday, sources said at IU press release.
Marking the day, the university authorities will organise a discussion programme at Birshrestha Hamidur Rahman Auditorium of the university around 11am.
IU information publication and public relations office director M Ataul Haque told Independent on Thursday, ‘AL joint secretary and also the MP of Kusthia-3 M Mahbubul Alam Hanif will address the discussion programme as the chief guest while MP of Jhenidah-1 M Abdul Hai will attend as the guest of honour’.
IU pro-vice-chancellor Prof M Shahinoor Rahman and Treasurer Professor M Selim Toha will be present as the special guest while IU vice-chancellor Professor M Harun-Ur-Rashid Askari will preside over the programme.
