Sheikh Russel Krira Chakra moved into the quarterfinal just after playing their first match in the Walton Federation Cup football tournament when they blanked Muktijoddha Sangsad Krira Chakra by 2-0.

Held at the Bangabandhu National Stadium, in the day’s first match, after a goalless opening half Raphael Odoyin of Nigeria and Alex Rafael of Brazil scored one goal each to bring Russel into the quarterfinal.

Muktijoddha, who suffered a solitary goal defeat to the holders Abahani Limited, after conceding second consecutive defeat were eliminated from the group stage of the tournament.

However, almost in a dull match Muktijoddha were better to produce scoring chances when they shot twice on target but could not keep the ball in the net.

The first chance came to Muktijoddha’s way on 24th minute but a good attempt of Japanese forward Yousuke Kato who deflected a Russel defender for corner. Kato, who was very sharp to take a low volley on a cross on a Ivory Coast forward Ballo Famoussa, was a bit unlucky not to get the goal, as his powerful right footer hit a defender.

Muktijoddha had their second opportunity to take lead on 42nd minute and Kato again was very closer to open the net but this time the Japanese disappointed taking the shot straight to the goalkeeper.

Muktijoddha, who could not take lead having opportunities to score goals in the first half, had to pay for it costly, when Russel scored two goals to win the match for the All Blues.

Raphael, who was left free most of the time while Muktis defenders looked to trick for off-side trap but their plans went wrong, as Raphael broke the off-side trap and ran faster to receive a through pass at the midway of Muktis half.

The Nigerian left all of his markers with a good sprint with the ball and went into open space and finally found the goalkeeper on one and one situation and did not miss to place the ball into far post (1-0).

Inspired after taking the lead, Russel sealed the victory just in the second minute of the added time when Brazilian Alex Rafael doubled the margin with placing a Raphael Odyino right side cross (2-0).

BJMC-BROTHERS

Otabek Valiionov slammed a hat-trick as Team BJMC had the last laugh when they snatched a 3-2 win over Brothers Union in a closely contested  match of the day.

In the entertaining game, it was an excellent show off of Brothers’ Brazilian duo Lima Leonardo and Everton Santos Souza, and BJMC’s Nigerian play-maker Samson Illiasu and the Uzbek forward Otabek.

However, Brothers took the lead on 26th minute through Lima Leonardo  coolly pushed the cross of his compatriot Everton (1-0).

BJMC, leveled the margin in the injury time of the first half when Otabek’s free kick from top of the box went into net after deflecting the Brothers wall (1-1).

The match turned into more exciting when Brothers regain the lead on 50th minute with Everton nodded home his spectacular header on Lima’s cross (2-1).

But the mighty BJMC again equalised the margin and this time also Uzbek forward Otabek scored the equaliser converting a penalty when Brothers defender Khan Mohammed Tara pulled down Otabek on 54th minute (2-2) and Tara was sent off.

After finding Brothers to a 10-man side, BJMC played with better possessions and took lead on 59th minute with Otabek completing his hat-trick when he superbly curled a right footer to send the ball  into the far post giving Biplob Bhattachariya no chance (3-2).
