The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has prevented a major instance of corruption in the Tejgaon industrial area. Acting on a tip-off, ACC director general Munir Chowdhury sent a team to the Nakhalpara area and prevented a team of touts from collecting bribes from people about to receive compensation money for donating their land for the construction of an elevated expressway. Earlier, the government had acquired land in the Nakhalpara area of Tejgaon to build the elevated expressway. During deliberations over the compensation, a section of touts started demanding bribes from land owners amounting to 10 per cent of the compensation money.
On being informed the matter, the ACC director general sent a team to the Tejgaon area so that the land owners could get their compensation without paying any bribe to the touts. The touts fled the scene once the ACC team arrived there.
Munir Chowdhury said the ACC would conduct drives in government offices to protect people’s rights and ensure that rules and regulations are followed.
