2 held with 50,000 yaba pills

Members of Rapid Action Battalion arrested two people along with 50,000 pieces of yaba pills from Beribadh in the capital's Mohammadpur area on Thursday night.

The arrestees are Rubel Ahmed, 26, son of late Abdul Alim, hailing from Sarshadi, Feni and Fahim Mia, 19, son of Md Kabir Mia of Bhadeshwara in Bramhanbaria district.

Being tipped-off that two youths were transporting drugs to Keraniganj, a team of the elite forces intercepted a pickup van from a bus counter around 11:25 pm and held them along with the contraband tablets, said a press release issued yesterday.

5 held with lethal weapons

Sylhet: Police arrested five young men along with five sharp weapons from Laladighirpar in the city on Thursday.

The arrestees were identified as Mainul Islam Rana, 24, son of Fakhrul Mia, Manir Hossain, 18, son of Mustafa Hazi, Solaiman Ahmed, 19, son of Chunnu Mia, Imran Ahmed, 18, son of Helal Mia and Sultan Ahmed, 22 of the area. Nure Alam, sub-inspector of Kotwali Police Station, said police arrested them as they were roaming in the area brandishing the weapons.

Jamaat leader held in Ctg

Chattogram: Police arrested a local leader of Jamaat-e-Islami from his residence in the city's Bakalia area on Thursday night. The arrestee was identified as Prof Ahsan Ullah, nayeb-e-amir of city unit Jamaat-e-Islami.

Pranab Kumar, officer-in-charge of Bakalia Police Station, said a team of police in a drive arrested the Jamaat leader from his residence around 10:30 pm. Ahsan was wanted in a number of political cases, he said.

DNCC eviction drive in Mirpur

A Dhaka North City Corporation mobile court led an eviction drive in different areas of Mirpur on Thursday to remove illegal establishments.

The mobile court led by DNCC executive magistrate Sajid Anwar conducted the drive in the area from 10:30am to 2:30pm and evicted 200 establishments and recovered a total area of almost 25,000 square feet.

Besides, the mobile court also fined three bamboo warehouses a total of Tk 60,000 for creating obstacles to public movement by keeping their bamboo supplies on roads.
