Two people were killed and 35 others injured in a clash over occupying a water body in Monduri village under Baniachang upazila of Habiganj on Saturday morning, reports UNB from Habiganj. The deceased were identified as Joynal Abedin, 40, and Sahabuddin, 30, residents of the village. Quoting locals, police said there had been a longstanding dispute between former chairman of Monduri union parishad Shamsul Huda and Mahtab Khan of the village over the ownership of the water body. The clash ensued around 9am on Saturday when the followers of the two groups went to the water body for catching fish. Both the groups, equipped with lethal weapons, attacked each other that left Joynal, a follower of Shamsul, dead on the spot and 36 people from both sides injured. Of the injured, Shahabuddin died on the way to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital. The injured were admitted to Habiganj Sadar Hospital.
