Trust evaluation body, Nahid tells univ teachers

Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid yesterday urged the public university teachers who have been on a movement to press home their several demands to have faith in the cabinet committee on removing salary discrimination, reports UNB. The teachers are members of our education family. Their problems are our problems. The government is very much sincere about them, he said while talking to reporters at the Secretariat. Nahid said the government has already talked to the Finance Minister over the demands of the teachers and the discussion is still underway. I hope the problem will be resolved through discussions, he said. The public university teachers have long been on a movement to press home their separate demands, including an independent pay scale for them. The teachers alleged that their position has been lowered by four grades in the 8th pay scale in contrast with the seventh one, which is humiliating and disgraceful for them. They said in the seventh pay scale, teachers used to receive the highest status like secretaries but in the eighth pay scale, they have been lowered by four steps as there are two more special posts over grade-1.
