Narayanganj: Workers of a garment factory went on a rampage following the death of a fellow worker in the factory in Bangladesh Small and Cottage Industries Corporation (BSCIC) industrial area of Fatullah, reports UNB.
Officer-in-charge of Fatullah Model Police Station Md Manjur Kader said Samiul, a supervisor of Fame Apparels Limited, died from electrocution while working in the factory around 10 am.
Doctors declared him dead after he was taken to a hospital. As the news of Samiul's death spread, his fellow workers got furious and took to the streets. They staged demonstrations and vandalised 7/8 factories demanding compensation for the death.
Workers of some other factories also joined with them. They also torched some furniture of the factories and hurled brickbats at those, leaving 10 workers injured.
At one stage, the authorities suspended operation of all factories in the BSCIC area.
Later, the workers ended their demonstrations upon assurance from the factory owner of providing compensation to the family of the deceased worker.
