RAJSHAHI: A court yesterday sentenced nine persons to life-term imprisonment for killing a local unit leader of Bangladesh Awami League in Natore reports BSS.
Rajshahi Speedy Trial Tribunal Court judge Anup Kumar pronounced the verdict in presence of all the accused in the court dock. The convicts are: Ariful Islam Arif, 24, Rabiul Islam, 27, Sabuj Ahmed, 22, Ahsan Habib, 23, Almas Khan, 28, Ayub Ali, 32, Mokbul Hossain, 28, Rubel Hossain, 26, and Golam Rabbani, 23. They were also fined Tk 5,000 each. Following pronouncement of the verdict, they were sent to Rajshahi Central Jail. Seventeen other accused of the case were acquitted as the murder charge brought against them could not be proved.
According to the prosecution, Abu Khan, 50, was beaten to death over a pond dispute on March 29, 2014 near his house at Soair Balal village in Shingra village of Natore district.Younger brother of the victim filed a case with Shingra Police Station on the same day. Upon completion of the investigation police pressed charges accusing 26 persons.
