Chattogram Division required only 89 runs with eight-wicket and a day remaining to win the fourth-round game of the Tier-2 fixture against Dhaka Division in the National Cricket League (NCL) at the Sheikh Kamal International Cricket Stadium in Cox’s Bazar yesterday.
Rajshahi Division and Khulna Division match was drifting towards the predictable draw in the Tier-1 outing at the Sheikh Abu Naser Stadium in Khulna.
At Shaheed Kamruzzaman Stadium in Rajshahi, Dhaka Metropolis needed 169 runs to triumph the tie with nine wickets and a day to spare against Sylhet Division.
Elsewhere at Rangpur Cricket Garden, Barishal Division lost three wickets to chase down the target of 230 set by Rangpur Division.
Dhaka vs Chattogram
Chittagong Division finally posted 238 after Dhaka Division’s first innings 288. In second innings, Dhaka Division were bundled out for a paltry 151 in the face of the combined spin and pace attack. Off-spinner Naeem Hasan and medium pacer Ifran Hossain evenly shared six spoils between them. Naeem, who grabbed record-eight wickets in first innings, picked up three wickets, leaking 39 runs.
Nazmul Hossain Milon top-scored for Dhaka Division with 39. He clubbed three sixes and a six in his 48-ball knock. Mahbubul Alam Anik, who didn’t get ably support from the other end as wickets were tumbling at regular intervals, remained indefatigable on 38.
Dhaka set 202-run target for Chattogram Division, who lost two wickets-Sadikur Rahman and Pinak Ghosh- cheaply to chase down the target. Mominul Haque hit a well-composed 109 runs with Tasamul Haque for the third-wicket before the bails were drawn for the day. Mominul was at stumps on 62 with Tasamul scoring 46.
Khulna vs Rajshahi
Rajshahi Division answered with bat in emphatic manner as they compiled 418 for nine after Khulna Division’s first innings 309. National discarded batsman Sabbir Rahman Rumman fell one run shy of his century. His 169-ball patient innings ended when he was run out by Afif Hossain. He clouted 11 boundaries and one six in 169-ball 99. Sunzamul finally made 64 off 132, hitting three fours and two sixes.
Shafiul Islam was not out on eight with Saqlain Sajib being scored yet.
Al Amin Hossain, Moinul Islam and Soumya Sarkar claimed two wickets apiece for Khulna.
Sylhet vs Metro
Dhaka Metropolis’ bowlers skittled out Sylhet Division for 184 before being mustered 300 in their first innings in reply to Sylhet’s first innings 312, meaning Dhaka required 197 runs to win the match.
Dhaka Metropolis finished the day third to put on 28 for one to overhaul the target. Sadman Islam Anik remained unbeaten on 11 with Shamsur Rahman Shuvo batting seven. Now they needed 169 runs with nine-wicket and a day to be left at the match.
Barishal vs Rangpur
Rangpur Division shot out Barishal Division for paltry 147 and then managed to score 229 in second innings following their first innings 147. Barishal therefore mislaid three wickets for 71 to run down the 230-run target to win.
Al Amin was on 35 not out with Shamsul Islam making nine.
