Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) is going to provide agricultural incentives to 14,875 small and marginal farmers for cultivating four crops during the current Rabi season in the district.
District DAE officials said a programme worth about Taka 1, 55, 44,000 was taken to provide assistance to the farmers for cultivating four crops –mustard, maize, BT brinjal and Boro paddy – on their own lands in the seven upazilas of the district.
Under the programme, 6,500 farmers will get incentives for farming mustard, 5,800 for maize, 75 for BT brinjal and 2500 farmers for Boro paddy, they said.
The farmers will get seed, chemical fertiliser and other agricultural assistance for cultivating any of the four crops on one Bigha of land. The upazila-wise beneficiaries are – 2,460 farmers in Jamalpur Sadar, 2,060 farmers in Sarishabari, 2,060 farmers in Melandaha, 2,315 farmers in Islampur, 2,110 farmers in Dewanganj, 2,010 farmers in Madarganj and 1,860 farmers in Bakshigaj. Training Officer of DAE, Md Abu Hanif said the aim of the programme is to increase production of the crops and help small and marginal farmers.
