College student stabbed dead
A college student was stabbed to death allegedly by his two friends in Chhoto Latifpur village in Kaliakoir Upazila in Gazipur early Sunday.
The deceased was identified as Masud Rana, 20, son of Nurul Islam, a resident of the village and a 2nd year student of Kaliakoir Degree College.
Shahidul Islam, sub-inspector of Kaliakoir police station, said Masuds two friends Parvej, 21, and Amit, 19, came to his house at the village for staying at night as Masuds family members were not at house.
They locked into an altercation over an issue when they were gossiping at midnight.
At one stage, Parvej and Amit stabbed Masud by a scissors, which left him critically injured.
Hearing the screams of Masud, the neighbours went to the spot and caught Amit and Parvej.
Later, the injured was admitted to Sadar Hospital where doctor declared him dead. On information police recovered the body. Parvej and Amit were handed over to police.
Three Jamaat men arrested
Police arrested three Jamaat-e-Islami leaders and ctivists from Labonchara area in Khulna Saturday night on charge of subversive activities.
The arrested were identified as Nasir Uddin Molla, 56; he is the Ameer of the ward 31, Jamaat Rokon Aktaruzzaman Raza, 62, and Jamaat activist Md Kabir Hossain, 42.
Additional deputy police commissioner of KMP Moniruzzaman Mithu said, on secret information, police arrested them around 8.15 pm Saturday night from a residence in Labonchara area in the city while they were planning to commit subversive activities.
Road accident kills one
A motorcyclist was killed and two pedestrians were injured in a road accident at Hatirjheel under Tejgaon Industrial police station area in the capital on Saturday night. The deceased was identified as M Masum, 32, son of Shamsul Haque of Rampura area in the capital. The injured were Siddique, 30, and Rinku, 25.
Police sources said the accident occurred as the motorcycle hit the pedestrians. Being informed, locals rushed to the spot, rescued the injured and sent them to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) where on-duty doctors declared M Masum dead around 2am, the sources added.
Three arrested with arms
Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)-10 in a drive arrested three persons and seized two foreign pistols, three magazines, nine rounds of bullet from a residence on Madrasa Road at Muradpur under Kadamtali thana on Friday night. The arrestees are Mohammad Suman Hawladar, 22, of Barisal, Mohammad Riaz Morshed Bappi, 32 of Kadamtali and Mohammad Asharaful Islam Sakil, 21 of Munshiganj. After being informed that some are holding secret meeting to snatch leather of animals of Qurbani, the RAB conducted drive at the residence and arrested them with the arms, a press release of RAB said here on Friday.
Youth commits suicide
A young man allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself at Bordesh village in Beanibazar upazila in Sylhet on Saturday night.
The deceased was identified as Shipon Ahmed, 21, son of late Modris Ali,a resident of this village.
Police said Shipon took his life by hanging himself from the ceiling of his room around 9pm following a family feud.
On information police recovered Shipon hanging body breaking open the door. The body was sent to the hospital morgue for autopsy said, Juber Ahmed officer-in-charge of Beanibazar police station.
