The two city mayors of Dhaka have claimed that they were successful in swiftly removing wastes in the capital that were created after slaughtering of animals during Eid-ul-Azha. Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Mayor Annisul Haq, at a press conference, claimed that the corporation was able to remove the wastes in 27 hours, well ahead of the 48-hour target it had set earlier. The press briefing was organised yesterday at the auditorium of the DNCC Gulshan office. On a separate note, the DNCC mayor said the corporation will take a tough stance against
illegal billboards in the city if these are not removed by the end of this month.
Annisul Haq warned that the corporation will take legal actions against the owners of the illegal billboards in the DNCC area.
“We are going to sit with shop owners in the city on the 3rd of October. We have decided to go tough against the illegal bill board owner’s, as billboards are mushrooming in the city. We will take legal action if they do not remove their bill boards immediately,” the mayor said. Meanwhile, at a separate press briefing at Nagarbhaban in the capital yesterday, Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Mayor Sayeed Khokon also claimed success in quickly removing the waste.
“We were able to remove the qurbani wastes in the city with the cooperation of the people. The waste removal is a continuous process and it will continue until the city is totally cleaned up. We estimate that around 18,000 tonnes of wastes were created on the Eid day and we have removed 16,000 tonnes till now.”
