Bangladesh open campaign against S Korea

Bangladesh Under-19 women national football team will face a tough challenge in their opening match of the AFC Under-19 Women’s Football Championship qualifying round as they will take on South Korean counterpart in Tajikistan on October 24.

The Under-19 team is leaving Dhaka for Dushanbe today at 5am to take part in the AFC age group competition’s qualifying phase to kick from tomorrow.

Bangladesh women’s football have displayed significant amount of growth with different age groups, snatching top places in different competitions in Asian and South Asian region in recent times. The Under-19 team is also highly expected to repeat the success run.

Drawn in the Group D, Bangladesh will face South Korea on October 24th and Chinese Taipei on the 26th. The last match of the qualifying round will be against Tajikistan on October 28th.

However, Bangladesh team is all geared up with a high hope to obtain the runners up position in the group stage to qualify in the final round as the top six from each group and two best runners up teams will advance in the final phase.

Golam Rabbani Choton, head coach expressed his high hope to be at least runners to move into the final stage when he said, “I believe that if the girls can continue their performance as they did in recent past competitions, we will be able to achieve a good result in this championship too.”

Syed Mahbubur Rahman, managing director and the CEO of the Dhaka Bank, who made an agreement with the Bangladesh Football Federation for six years to provide their support to the national women’s team also addressed in the press meet that was held yesterday.

Team captain Misrat Jahan Mousumi along with her deputy Maria Manda and chairman of the women’s wing, Mahfuza Akhter Kiron also addressed the press meet with encouraging the girls to do their best for good result.

The Dushanbe bound Under-19 team can bolster inspiration from the champions of the SAFF Under-18 Championship, AFC Under-16 Championship.
