All four matches of the third round of the National Cricket League (NCL) ended in a draw with the fixtures in Barisal and Cox's Bazar heavily affected by rain. However the highlight of the last and final day of this round was Tushar Imran’s century, which was his 31st and in doing so, he became the first Bangladeshi batsman to score 11,000 runs in the first class cricket.
He also became the first batsman in Bangladesh domestic cricket to score seven hundreds in a year. The seventh, 103 against Rangpur Division yesterday, was also his third in the 2018-19 season. He overtook Mosaddek Hossain (2015) and Naeem Islam (2017) who had made six centuries in a year. Tushar struck eight fours in his 176-ball innings. Tushar has now scored 1161 runs this year at an average of 82.92.
Riding on Tushar’s 103 and Soumya Sarkar’s 71, Khulna declared their second innings on 334 for nine at Sheikh Abu Naser Stadium in Khulna after which Rangpur ended the day on 91 for one with Jahid Javed being not out on 64.
At Barishal Stadium in another Tier-1 game, Shahriar Nafees struck his first hundred of the year when he made 102 against Rajshahi Division on the final day.
He struck 12 fours and three sixes in his 161-ball effort, in a game where the bowlers dominated. After being bowled out for 133 in the first innings, Barishal scored 229 for seven in second innings while Rajshahi was all out for 155 in their only innings.
In Tier-2 game, at the Bourg Shaheed Chandu Stadium, Chattogram Division ended the final day on 159 for three. They scored 236 in the first innings. Dhaka Metropolis however made 287 in its first innings and declared the second innings on 254 for seven.
Only innings was possible in the match between Sylhet and Dhaka at Sheikh Kamal International Cricket Stadium in Cox’s Bazar in another Tier-2 game. Sylhet declared their innings on 355 for nine before Dhaka made 55 for three.
