Several years ago, land was acquired for the construction of a bypass road running next to the Domar upazila town but the road is yet to be built. The cause of the delay remains unknown. The bypass road had been planned to ensure a smooth movement of long-distance buses and trucks. More than five years ago, several hundred acres of land were acquired for the construction of a wide bypass road. The project remains stalled. Over 150 long-route buses and trucks use the main road located inside the main town, causing unbearable traffic congestion.
Students told the Independent they found it difficult to reach school on time because of the traffic jam. When contacted, the mayor of Domar municipality, Md Monsurul Islam Danu, said it was difficult to explain why the project was not being executed even after land acquisition. He added that the bypass road had become an urgent necessity.
