RAJSHAHI: Police arrested a couple with 880 pieces of banned yaba tablets from Upashahar area under Boalia Police Station in the city Wednesday night, reports UNB.
The arrested persons were identified as Monwarul Islam, 38, and his wife Moriam Khatun, 31. On a tip-off, a police team conducted a sudden raid in their rented residence (3/177) in the city’s posh area around 12.10 midnight and seized the contraband items after searching the house.
Ameer Jafar, deputy commissioner of Rajshahi Metropolitan Police, said Monwarul Islam was a bus helper once upon a time. The couple amassed huge money through drug peddling in the last couple of years and they also have an apartment in the city, the police officer informed.
