CUMILLA: A sub-inspector of Kotwali Police Station was sent to jail in connection with two cases filed against him for allegedly torturing his ex-wife over dowry and fraudulence, reports UNB.
The detainee was identified as Syed Delwar Hossain, SI of Kotwali Police Station. Dhaka Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal 2 Judge Abul Manjur Hossain passed the order after rejecting his bail plea. According to the case statement, earlier in 2006, Delwar married Ratna Begum who had divorced her first husband. After their marriage, using different tricks, Delwar took around Tk 47,74,000 from Ratna and also use to torture her demanding more money.
Unable to bear the torture at one stage, Ratna lodged written complaint against Delwar and submitted to the Cumilla Police Superintendent in this regard. In the meantime, Delwar divorced Ratna.
Earlier on October 10, Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal issued arrest warrant against Delwar after judicial investigation as Ratna filed two cases against him with the court.
