State Minister for Women and Children Affairs Meher Afroze Chumki yesterday said that her ministry is working to formulate a law to encourage individual participation in daycare centers across the country, reports BSS. “The Women and Children Affairs Ministry has set up 98 daycare centers across the country. To encourage individual participation in the centers, the process is underway to formulate a law,” she said at a function in the capital.
The women leave jobs only for nurturing their offspring that reduces the women participation in the workplaces, the state minister added. Chumki was addressing an inter-ministerial meeting organised by Women and Children Affairs Ministry and UN Women Bangladesh at Hotel Sonargaon, said an official release here.
Representatives from different ministries and civil society members joined the meeting.
Women and Children Affairs Secretary Nasima Begum, Women Affairs Department Director General Kazi Rowshon Akter and UN Women Bangladesh Representative Shoko Ishikawa spoke in the meeting.
Addressing the meeting, Nasima said the country will achieve gender parity before 2030. But to achieve gender parity, economic, social and political empowerment of women is a must, she added.
