Journalist hurt in attack by miscreants in Pabna
Pabna: A journalist of a private television channel sustained injuries in an attack carried out by miscreants in front of Pabna Seba Hospital in the district town on Saturday night, report sUNB.
Injured Habibur Rahman Swapan, 65, is the district correspondent of Baishakhi Television and Bangla daily Dainik Sangbad and also the president of Pabna Reporters’ Unity. Gautam Kumar Biswas, additional superintendent of Pabna Police, said a gang of miscreants numbering three riding on a motorcycle obstructed Habibur while he was returning home from the press club in the night.
The miscreants beat him indiscreetly leaving him injured on the road.
Hearing his screams, locals rushed in and took him to a hospital in the town from where he was referred to a city hospital as his condition deteriorated further.
Policewereconducting drives to arrest the criminals, said the additional superintend.
Meanwhile, Pabna Press Club President Professor Shibjit Nag and Secretary Akhu Nur Islam Remon condemned the attack and urged police to arrest the attackers immidiately.
Sec 144 imposed in Thakurgaon over temple land dispute
Thakurgaon: The local administration yesterday slapped section 144 in the adjoining areas of a disputed temple in Auliapur union of Sadar upazila, reports UNB.
The administration imposed the ban from 10 am which will be effective until further notice, said Abdullah Al Mamun, Thakurgaon upazila nirbahi officer.
He said there had a dispute between Sonaton Hindu and ISKCON (International Society for Krishna Consciousness) followers over a piece of 34-acre land of Roshikalal Ziu temple.
On September 4, a man was killed in a clash between the two groups, said the UNO adding: “The trials of the murder and ownership cases are still under process.”
To avoid any untoward situation, the administration imposed the ban, said the UNO.
BCL leader held with yaba tablets
Kurigram: Members of the Department of Narcotics Control (DNC) detained a local leader of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) and his accomplice allegedly along with 30 Yaba tablets from Jatindra Nabayan area in Fulbari upazila yesterday, reports UNB.
The detainees are Bulbul Ahmed, 28, former president of Kashipur union unit BCL and son of Monir Uddin Master of Ajoatari village in the upazila, and his associate Ashraful Islam, 38, son of Golam Mostafa of the same village.
District DNC office sub-inspector Zahidul Islam arrested the duo in the morning, said SI Mahubar Rahman of Fulbari Police Station. Later, they were handed over to the police station and a case was filed against them, he said.
Man held with arms, ammo
OUR CORRESPONDENT, Chapainawabganj
Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested an alleged arms peddler with a pistol, a magazine and five rounds of bullet from Tartipur Cattle market area in Shibganj upazila of Chapainawabganj district on Saturday afternoon.
The arrestee was identified as Md Sujon Ali, 19, son of Md Sohobul Alam of Durlavpur Dobhagi village in Shibganj upazila of the district. RAB sources said acting on a tip off, an operation team of RAB from Chapainawabganj camp raided the aforesaid area at around 4:30pm and arrested Sujon with the arms and ammunition.
Later, the arrestee was handed over to the police of Shibganj police station with a case.
Easy bike driver found dead
Natore: Police recovered the body of an easy-bike driver from a paddy field atBarghoriain Sadar upazila yesterday morning, reports UNB.
The deceased was identified as Yusuf Ali, 22, son of Abdul Khalek of Borogachha area in the district town.
Farid Uddin, officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station, said that locals spotted the body with his hands and legs tied up with a piece of rope and informedpolice.
Later, police recovered the body.
