BBCL clinch national snooker team title

Bangladesh Billiard Centre Limited (BBCL) clinched the title of the third National Snooker Team Championship-2018 that ended on the Dhaka Club Limited (DCL) premises in the capital city yesterday.

By virtue of the victory, the outfit of Dhaka Bangladesh Billiard Centre, tasted their maiden championship thrashing Narayanganj Club Limited in the thrilling final showdown of the six-day meet, sponsored by Beximco Group, one of the prime conglomerate companies of Bangladesh.

This time the highest number of 51 participants from 17 teams from four different cities across the country took part in the joint initiative, taken by Bangladesh Billiard and Snooker Federation (BBSF) coupled with Dhaka Club Limited.

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) President Nazmul Hassan Papon as the chief guest distributed cheque and trophy among the winners.

Nagina Afzal Sinha, wife of the late president of Dhaka Club limited and BBSF Afzalur Rahman Sinha and Syed Mahboob, general secretary of Bangladesh Billiard and Snooker Federation (BBSF), were present as special guests.

Champions Bangladesh Billiard Center received Tk one lakh cheque from Nazmul Hassan as prize money, while runners-up Narayanganj Club Limited took 50,000.00 from Nagina Afzal Sinha as prize money.

Semi-finalists- Team B of Dhaka Club Limited (DCL)and Breakers Pool and Snooker was rewarded by BBSF general secretary Syed Mahboob with Tk 25,000.00 each.

Dr. Zahirul Islam, member of the executive committee of BBSF and member-in-charge of billiard and snooker committee of Dhaka Club Limited, Sabrina Zaman, chief executive officer (CEO) of Impact PR, A. A Ibrahim Kaju, head of tournament operation and Adnan Mansur, member of tournament technical committee, among others, were also present.

Seeking cooperation from all, Zahir said that they have plans to host an international tournament in Bangladesh ahead.

"We all know our limitations. Despite all those, we have plans to organise an international tournament in the country ahead to popularise the game. For this,we seek cooperation from all the organisers, corporate houses along with media," he said.

"This time a record number of participants took part in the team championship, where five teams, out of 17, were from outside of Dhaka. We're trying to gradually expand the game," Syed Mahboob said.

BCB president Nazmul Hassan Papon, chief guest said,"Snooker has a potential in the country. It's needed good infrastructure for the game. There's no better infrastructure for snooker in the country. But there will be no problem for sponsor. When you approach to us, I think, there will be no problem for sponsorship."
