Awami League (AL) general secretary Obaidul Quader has dubbed the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) as a ‘fake political party’. Quader said the BNP was "fake" as that party spread falsehood on any issue. Citing an example, Quader said although the BNP delegation had failed to meet the UN under-secretary-general, they were claiming that they held a meeting with him. Quader, who is also the road transport and bridges minister, made this allegation while speaking at a mass-contact programme of the party at Farmgate area in Dhaka. As part of the countrywide week-long mass contact programme, the ruling party yesterday held the programme for the fourth consecutive day.
Quader said the BNP would be harmful for the country if it came to power again. The country would not be secure in the hands of the BNP-Jamaat combine, he added.
About the BNP's threat to start a movement, the AL general secretary said that party lacked the ability to do so even one month before the upcoming national polls. “How will the BNP wage a movement within one month, when it couldn't do so in the past 10 years?" he wondered.
Quader said the people were in an election mood. "They wanted elections and no one would be able to foil the next polls," he added.
After concluding his speech, the AL general secretary also distributed party leaflets among city dwellers.
