After the intolerable heat and humidity of the past few days, the weather started improving yesterday with cool and pleasant winds blowing across Dhaka. The weather had started showing signs of cooling since Wednesday night with Nikli to the northeast of Dhaka in Kishoreganj recording 41 mm of rains till 6 am yesterday. Tangail, also to the north of Dhaka, recorded overnight showers of 12 mm till 5 am yesterday. However, there was no such luck for Jashore in the south-west, which had recorded the country’s highest maximum temperature of 36.7°C on Wednesday. The mercury dipped slightly to 36°C yesterday in Jashore along with Khulna, Met office sources said.
More relief is likely to come after October 11 and 12, when the Met was expecting a depression to form in the central Bay. The depression carrying some rains under its wings may either sail away towards the West Bengal coast of India or towards Bangladesh, the sources said.
The Met office has forecast a couple of such depressions brewing in the Bay. One of them might intensify into a cyclone during October.
The cyclone season in the Bay begins from October and runs till December.
Meanwhile, Dhaka recorded a maximum temperature of 32.6°C yesterday—a dip from 35.9°C on Wednesday. This made the temperature a bit tolerable. A cool breeze blowing from the north-east and winds from the south-east, which had witnessed a few spells of overnight rains, added to the relief of the denizens.
