70pc breast cancer sufferers die without treatment

Every year at least 22,000 women are diagnosed with breast cancer in the country and among them, 70 percent of the women die without any medical treatment, said speakers at a discussion programme on Tuesday, reports UNB.
The discussion programme was organised by Ahsania Mission Cancer and General Hospital (AMCGH) marking the World Breast Cancer Awareness Month at Uttara, said a press release.
Speaking as chief guest former home minister Sahara Khatun, MP, said Most of the women suffering from breast cancer do not consult with doctors due to embarrassment.
If awareness can be created about this, breast cancer will be reduced significantly in the country. Breast cancer is the second most common cancer in women, the speakers said.
Quoting a National Institute of Cancer Research and Hospital report the speakers said that the average age of patients who are suffering from breast cancer is reported 41 years and 89 percent of all breast cancer patients are married.
AMCGH Oncology Consultant, Sura Zukurup Mumtahane and Pain and Pallitive Care Head of Clinical Oncology and Senior Consultant Professor Dr. AMM Shariful Alam spoke there among others.
