‘Skilled workforce a must to attain economic growth’

Agriculture Minister Matia Chowdhury yesterday stressed the need for creating skilled human resources to enhance productivity for attaining economic development goals as well as to turn the country into a middle-income country within the stipulated time, reports BSS.

“Our huge population is the driving force for economic development in Bangladesh…We should utilize this human resources to enhance country’s productivity for attaining economic growth of our country,” the Minister made the call as the chief guest while addressing a seminar titled ‘Productivity for Developing Happy and Prosperous Country’ held at CIRDAP auditorium in the city.

National Productivity Organisation under Ministry of Industries organised the seminar marking the National Productivity Day-2018.

Bangladesh now is moving towards rapid progress in all sectors, including agriculture as the country has achieved self-sufficiency in food under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s government, she added.

“Our Premier has given the Bengali nation a new direction… She (PM) has reduced carbon emissions by strengthening environment-friendly industrialisation,” Matia said, adding that the premier is also giving emphasis on using environment friendly energy through increasing the production of solar power.

Highlighting the agricultural development, the minister said Bangladesh is the third largest producer of vegetables in the world, fourth in the production of fresh water fish and seventh in the production of potatoes as the agri sector has achieved tremendous success in the past few years.

Minister also hoped that Bangladesh would become a developed country long before the scheduled time under the prime minister’s dynamic leadership.

Presided over by Acting Secretary of Industries Ministry Md Abdul Halim, the seminar was addressed by Joint Director of National Productivity Organization Md Abdul Musabbir and Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Industry Luthfun Nahar Begum.
